What is an excavation?
Man made cut, trench in an earth surface formed by earth removal.
A trench is narrow underground excavation that is deeper than it is wide, and is no wider than 4.5m.

- Fall of tools or equipment
- Surface or ground water

- Fall of vehicle
- Improper access and egress

What are control measures for excavation?
- Permit to work
- Excavation Certificate
- Area scanning
- Check soil and do sloping or shoring or benching accordingly
- Barricade and safety signs (hard barricade 1.2 m)
- Keep 1 m edge clear
- Underground utilities (Cable Detector, plan or drawing of underground or trail pit)
- Provide safe access and egress
