    What are Personal Protective Equipment

    When all other controls from control hierarchy are not able to reduce residual risk, it may be necessary to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It is duty of employer to provide suitable PPE to all employees where risk can not be controlled.

    Basically PPE are equipment that are worn by employees at work to protect them from health and safety risks. PPE is considered as last line of control because it only protect the wearer and its usage depend on training.

    PPE belong to the wearer as, it is supposed to protect only wearer so wearer has the responsibility to correctly use and store it. Each PPE is designed to protect specific part of the body. PPE are available to protect the body from head to toe.

    Personal Protective Equipment training presentation covers by following types of PPE.

    • Head Protection – Safety Helmet
    • Eye and Face Protection – Goggles, Face shields
    • Respiratory Protection – Particulate respirators, chemical cartridge/gas mask respirator, powered air-purifying respirators, SCBA
    • Hearing Protection – Ear plugs, Ear muffs
    • Hand Protection – Chemical resistant, heat resistant, cut resistant leather palm, Anti-vibration
    • Foot Protection – Safety shoes with metal toe cap, Rubber shoes
    • Body Protection – Coveralls, Laboratory coats
    • Fall Arrest system – Body Harness, Anchorage
