    The Hospital Waste Management Rules enforced in 2005 as per SRO 1013 (1)/2005 provides guidelines for hospital waste management in details. These rules define proper procedure for segregation, collection, transportation, storage, disposal and incineration of waste generated during the various operations of Health care facility.

    Important Rules of Hospital Waste Management Rules 2005 and their purpose

    • Rule 3 – Responsibility for waste management

    Every hospital shall be responsible for the proper management of the waste generated by it till its final disposal in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the rules 16 to 22.

    • Rule 15 – Waste Management Plan

    A Waste Management Plan shall be prepared by a Waste Management Officer for approval by the Waste Management Team, and shall be based on internationally recognized environment management standards such as the International Organization for Standardization 14000 series.

    • Rule 26 – Applicability of Section 14

    Each hospital generating risk waste shall apply to the Federal Agency for issuance of licence for handling hazardous substances and the provision of section 14 shall apply for the purpose of granting such licence.
