Visitors often visit sites/industries to gain knowledge, understand business, etc., and it is responsibility of owner/occupier of the site/industry to provide safety in all manners for visitors.
It is a legal requirement in many countries to ensure safety of visitors. So, it is good to share some instruction/guidelines with visitor to follow in case of an emergency. It will also help in preventing injury, costs and a bad reputation.
Share the following guidelines with visitors to facilitate and aware regarding potential health, safety and environment aspects related to your site/industry.
Below is the general HSE guidelines for visitors and you should amend it according to your site/industry before sharing with your visitors. You can email these guidelines to your visitors or print on back of visitors’ ID card or print on separate document and share at the time of visit.
General HSE Guidelines for Visitors
- Follow the instructions given by your host
- Do not smoke except at designated areas
- Visitors’ responsibilities towards the environment
- Do not litter
- Do not waste tap water
- In case of emergency
- Immediately inform your host
- On sounding of the alarm, follow your host to the assembly point for safe evacuation
- Do not take part in rescue and emergency handling activities
- Do not use the elevator
- Use HSE Observation form for reporting unsafe acts/conditions
You should also add a picture, which shows the assembly points and evacuation route of your site/industry with these guidelines. Similarly, you can add an emergency procedure as per your site/industry and any other necessary information that might help your visitors and ensure their safety.
