Online NEBOSH Certificate Verification Guide (2026)

NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) is a UK awarding body that provides internationally recognised qualifications in health, safety, environmental management, and risk management. NEBOSH qualifications are highly valued by employers around the world and are often required for health and safety positions across various industries.

To help employers and learners confirm the authenticity of qualifications, NEBOSH provides an online certificate verification service. This allows anyone with the required certificate details to check whether a NEBOSH qualification is genuine and issued by NEBOSH.

Why Verify a NEBOSH Certificate?

Verifying a NEBOSH certificate helps ensure that a qualification is authentic and has been awarded to the individual named on the certificate. Employers may use the verification service during recruitment, while certificate holders may wish to confirm their qualification details.

Certificate verification can help:

  • Confirm the authenticity of a NEBOSH qualification
  • Prevent the use of fraudulent certificates
  • Support recruitment and competency checks
  • Provide confidence to employers and training providers

How to Verify a NEBOSH Certificate Online

NEBOSH now uses a more secure two-step online verification system to confirm whether a certificate is genuine. This system helps prevent fraud and ensures that only the certificate holder can approve the verification request.

There are now two main ways to verify a NEBOSH certificate online: QR code verification and the online verification request system.

  1. QR Code Verification

For certificates issued from October 2019 onwards, NEBOSH includes a QR code on the certificate.

  • Open your smartphone camera or QR scanner
  • Scan the QR code on the certificate
  • You will be taken to NEBOSH’s official verification system
  • Enter basic details (name, organisation, email)
    • When verifying your own certificate, type “Learner” in the Organisation field.
  • A request is sent to the certificate holder for approval

Once the certificate holder approves, NEBOSH confirms whether the certificate is authentic via email.

  1. Online Verification Request
  • Go to the NEBOSH Online Verification Service
  • Enter details (name, organisation, email address)
    • When verifying your own certificate, type “Learner” in the Organisation field.
  • Provide certificate details:
    • Learner name (exactly as on certificate)
    • Certificate Master Log Number
    • Date of achievement
  • Submit the request
  • A request is sent to the certificate holder for approval

Once the certificate holder approves, NEBOSH confirms whether the certificate is authentic via email.

Note: Certificate holder must approve or deny request in 2 days. If the certificate was issued before February 2007, you will need to submit the Manual verification request form.

Previously, verifying a NEBOSH certificate was a much simpler and faster process, where users could often receive direct confirmation of whether a certificate was genuine. However, the system has now been updated to include a certificate holder approval step as part of the verification process.

While this new method may feel slightly more time-consuming, it significantly improves security and authenticity control. Every verification request must now be approved by the certificate holder before confirmation is issued, ensuring that sensitive information is protected and reducing the risk of fraudulent checks.

In short, the process has shifted from being purely instant to a more secure, controlled, and fraud-resistant system, prioritizing data protection and certificate integrity over speed.
